HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ACRYLIC GLAZE | MY RECIPE FOR GLAZING
Can you make your own acrylic glaze for acrylics?
Yes, you can make something similar to one the commercially-prepared glazes.
You can make a nice glazing medium by mixing some airbrush medium (like this one) – also called high flow medium – with some gloss or satin gel.
Ratio | Recipe To Make Your Own Acrylic Glaze:
Gel medium = 2/3
High flow/airbrush medium = 1/3
Mix well and add color. Tweak this as-needed to get the right consistency. You can also add a few drops of water!
AIRBRUSH MEDIUM (also found under the name HIGH FLOW MEDIUM) will help turn your acrylics into a high flow paint as well as mix with gels to thin them out.
For paint: Mix it with fluid acrylics for best results (or soft body) for a high-flow paint.
GELS I RECOMMEND – they will mix with the high flow/airbrush medium and give you a nice final glaze-type medium.
If you need a more matte finish, you can use one like this (the soft gel will help it mix better than a heavy gel):
