How to Use Glazes and Transparent Washes
- Choose the right paint. Not all acrylics and watercolors are created equal—look for those labeled “transparent” (avoid heavy, opaque pigments for glazing!)
- Mix with medium. For acrylics, add glazing liquid or water to your paint until it’s the consistency of tinted glass. For watercolors, it’s simply more water and less pigment.
- Work in thin, even layers. Apply a light wash and let it fully dry before layering your next color. Each layer builds subtlety and depth.
